Cat Ladder Specification
A cat ladder specification is a written contract of geometry, load and finish — plus the standard it must meet. We build to the standard that governs your territory and prove it with documents. Retrofit access after handover always costs more than specifying it correctly at tender stage.
OSHA 1910.28 / 1910.23 — US
Key clauses: uniform rung spacing of 254–356 mm (10–14 in), clear stile width at least 406 mm, and a ladder safety system or personal fall arrest above 7.3 m (24 ft) of climb.
What it requires from your cat ladder: we size stile geometry and fall-protection to the climb height and state the arrangement on the drawing review.
EN ISO 14122-4 — EU
Key clauses: rung spacing 225–300 mm, 1.5 kN point load per rung, safety cage or fall arrest above 3 m, and rest platforms at maximum 6 m intervals.
What it requires from your cat ladder: cage height, platform spacing and guardrail details are engineered into the specification before production.
BS 4211 — UK
Key clauses: rung centres 225–300 mm and a 1.5 kN rung load. Our default build: 225–230 mm rungs, stiles at 400–425 mm centres, wall fixings at ≤1500 mm.
What it requires from your cat ladder: our default build geometry sits inside the BS 4211 rung band — most UK roof and plant projects work straight from it.
AS 1657 — AU / NZ
Key clauses: rung spacing 250–300 mm, fall protection above 3 m free climb, and landing platforms at maximum 6 m.
What it requires from your cat ladder: we supply mill-certified (EN 10204 3.1) SS304/316 and galvanized options with regional compliance for coastal and inland sites.
